Anklebiters (Pre-CanSkate) Available for ages 2 and up, this program is designed for children who have never skated before, or who are still mastering the basic skills of getting up and down and moving on the ice. For safety, NO parents are allowed on the ice with the children this is a child only program. Divided into 2 sessions during the winter season, you may choose to do October December or January March, or both. Lessons are given in a group format for 30 minutes on Wednesday evenings, and will be led by an NCCP certified professional coach. Professional coaches will be assisted by trained Program Assistants.
CanSkate is Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for children ages 5 and up OR children who are able to fall down and stand back up on their own. CanSkate focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. Children can earn badges as they learn the fundamental skills needed for any ice sport. Lessons are 50 minutes long in a group format, and take place from October March on either Monday or Wednesday evening, or both. Lessons will be led by an NCCP certified professional coach, with the assistance of trained Program Assistants.
Advanced CanSkate is a continuation of the CanSkate program, but designed for skaters who have passed their 3rd badge. Skaters will continue to develop the skills taught in CanSkate, but also have the opportunity to begin to learn to work on their own in preparation for moving on to STARSkate. Advanced CanSkate is offered for 45 minutes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from *September March. Group lessons are on Monday and Wednesday evenings and led by an NCCP certified professional coach, with the assistance of trained Program Assistants as required. On Friday evenings skaters have 45 minutes with no group lessons where they can work alone or with a private coach and develop their ability to self-lead practicing.
CanPowerSkate is an action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and/or ringette skaters. Focusing on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance, skaters will learn skills, techniques and conditioning drills that they can apply to game situations. CanPowerSkate requires that skaters have mastered the basic forward and backward skating skills and be able to stop without using the boards. Lessons are 50 minutes in length and offered on Thursdays from October March. An NCCP certified professional coach will lead the group, with the help of trained Program Assistants as required. For safety reasons, participants should wear full hockey/ringette equipment that is CSA approved.
STARSkate - Skills, Tests, Achievement, and Recognition is what this program is all about. STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Skaters will have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Offered on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, this program is self-led by the skaters. There are NO group lessons offered in STARSkate. To qualify for STARSkate B session - skaters must have passed their 6th CanSkate badge. For STARSkate A, skaters must have passed their Junior Bronze Free Skate test OR been born in 1996 or earlier. *STARSkate runs from September March.
AdultSkate will be offered this year on Thursday evenings from October - March. AdultSkate is open to all adults over the age of 18 who wish to either learn-to-skate, or continue their previous skating experience. All levels of skaters are welcome on this program. AdultSkate focuses on skill development (basic or advanced) while having fun and getting great exercise. **Numbers dependant.
